Directions to the écovallée yurt camp
The écovallée yurt camp is 20 minutes east of Bergerac airport, 15 minutes’ walk from Lalinde train station and 500 metres south of the main road to Sarlat. Which means it’s very easy to get here – and an ideal place from which to discover the Dordogne.
écovallée by train
Trains run every two hours during the day between Bordeaux-St-Jean and Sarlat, stopping Lalinde sncf, less than 1 km from your yurt. If you are travelling by train and want to explore the area, you might want to get off at Bergerac and rent a car (you’ll need a credit card for this). Taxis in the Dordogne are very expensive and not always available when you want them.
You can hire bikes through écovallée at reasonable rates, although the steep hill (20% gradient) between the yurt camp and Lalinde should only be attempted by the very fit.
écovallée by Eurotunnel
The Channel Tunnel is a popular choice with many guests. One point that is worth emphasising and underlining here is that France is a VERY BIG country. If you have young children, you might want to break up the journey. There are a number of hotel chains en route (B&B is one) that offer family rooms at reasonable rates, with restaurants nearby. Alastair Sawday has also found some special places to stay along the way.
écovallée by ferry
The closest port to écovallée is St Malo, served by Brittany Ferries. Arriving in the morning, you can easily reach your yurt in one day – even with very young children. If you have time, you could stop at the beautiful town of Brantôme, or pop into the Grotte de Villars which has spectacular rock formations and prehistoric art. Check-in at écovallée is from 4pm, but there’s plenty to do locally if you arrive early.
écovallée by plane
Bergerac airport is served by several airlines, including flybe and Ryanair. When you pick up your car from Buggs, Avis or Europcar, you are less than half an hour from écovallée, on the main road to Sarlat.
Some guests have flown into Bordeaux and Limoges is also an option. But the drive time from these airports can mean arriving at écovallée late in the evening.
écovallée from Lalinde
From the church in Lalinde, cross the bridge over the Dordogne, take the second turning (signposted “Coste-Perie”) and go up the hill. After 400 metres, there is a sharp right turn (signposted “Falaise de St Front”) – ignore this. Keep going, past the telephone pylon, until the road bends 90 degrees right (about 300 metres from the “Falaise” sign). Go left/straight on here (signposted “Cavard” and dead end). After only 20 metres, turn left onto an unexpectedly small road between a large field and rocky, flowery embankment. About 100 metres down the hill on the left you will see a postbox, some bamboo, our little building and yurts. Relax. You have arrived.
